Affordable way to make your old couch feel like new

You’ve noticed over time that your couch cushions are sagging and you wonder if you should replace the couch or replace the cushions. We will show you how to replace the cushions on your couch with high density foam even if your cushions are attached.

Below is a project The Woodward Collection recently did for a client where we replaced the cushions, rebuilt the arm rest and added stuffing to the back cushions.

remove couch cushion springs

Detach the springs under your couch

Remove the dust guard and then remove the springs on one side gain access to the couch cushions. Remove the two springs on the end first since they are the most difficult. Once the end springs are removed the rest of them are easily remove with firm pressure. You may need to cut wire chord holding them together to gain better access to cushions.

Remove old couch cushion foam

Carefully remove the old foam from inside the attached cushions and make sure you don’t damage the couch material. Often the old foam is stuck the the couch material so you have to slowly work your hand between the two and carefully seperate them. Make sure all the old material is removed to get a snug fit with the new high density foam.

Stuff the new high density foam into cushions

Take the new foam and slowly stuff them in where the old cushions came out. It’s a tight fit with the new high density foam and batten so take your time working each side back and forth. Try to get the front edge of the foam to line up with the front seam the best you can. This is the challenge of replacing foam in cushions that are attached to the couch.

Use Poly Stuffing to fill the corners

Often when you get the new foam installed some of the corner edges of the cushions may not be completely full and may appear to be saggins still. Adding poly stuffing to each corner to fill it out until it looks and fills full.

Reattach the springs and staple the dust guard back on

I recommend attaching the inside springs first and then the two on the outside. It relieves some of the pressure from the outside spring and makes it easier to guide them into the hole. Once all the springs are attached you can staple the dust guard back on attache the legs and you’re done. An easy way to make your couch feel like new.

How to Replace the Foam in Attached Couch Cushions

Amazing! My wife and I decided Santa was going to bring a new couch. A welcome relief from the Christmas Eve CVS run for last minute, As Seen on TV items loved by all…

We loved our old couch. It matched the living room colors, décor and size but sadly her cushions were tired (by tired I mean dead tired.) The armrest was not resting anything anymore, making us believe it to be beyond repair. After not finding any replacement couches we loved, we sent a Yelp request and found Ward and crew. Not only was he knowledgeable on the phone, he was quick to quote, pickup, repair and deliver.  His work was that of an artisan, restoring it to better than new condition. We appreciated the work so much, we asked him to fix the matching chair. His price estimate was very reasonable given the quality and quick turnaround.
